Q: I've asked this question before but I didn't see the entry come up. What is the best load for a self defense shotgun? I never use the shotgun for hunting at all. I've used Winchester before and it works fine at the range.

A: #9 shot is very small and intended for sporting use only, such as shooting clay pigeons or hunting small birds. For self defense, buckshot or slugs are a better choice. Winchester manufactures several examples of both.
