accurate and high power.

This is very good ammo. Using the proper bullet drop compensation I was able to hit and kill a large red squirrel at 160 yards with a Savage mark2 rifle using this ammo. (Posted on 5/9/12)Reliable? Ammo Performance Bargain? -

Q: What is the velocity of this cartridge at the muzzle and at 50 yards?
Posted On: 10/21/11 By: Mike
A: The muzzle velocity of these Remington Yellow Jacket bullets is 1500fps, and at 50 yards their velocity is 1247fps. These numbers are from a rifle.
Q: What is the difference between "Hyper" velocity and "High" velocity? It was recommended that my pistol use high velocity .22LR.
Posted On: 10/21/11 By: Dustin
A: Well, standard velocity 22LR ammo is a 40gr bullet at 1040-1080fps. High velocity ammo pushes the same bullet (or a 36gr bullet) to 1200 or more fps, while hyper velocity ammo sometimes uses slightly lighter bullets that are traveling at or above 1400fps. High velocity ammo is more reliable than standard velocity ammo in most semi auto pistols, because it has more recoil energy, which is necessary to operate a blowback action. You should try several different types of high velocity ammo to see which one functions best in your pistol.
Q: What .22LR round is best for small game hunting? I have heard the Remington Hyper Velocity round is good, but I have also heard the subsonic rounds have less penetration, but more knock down power.
Posted On: 9/29/11 By: brandon
A: These Yellow Jackets are a good choice for small game hunting. No .22LR ammo is going to "knock down" a target unless it's a light steel plate that's being knocked over. If you put the bullet in the right place, it will do the rest, and you will have a quick and clean kill.
Q: Which .22LR round is best for hunting small game? I have heard that Remington Hyper Speeds are good, but I have also heard that Subsonic rounds move slower causing less penetration, but have more knock down power, is this true?

A: Higher velocity loads are generally better for hunting with a 22LR because they have flatter trajectories and more energy. However, if you wish to hunt with a suppressed .22 and keep noise down, subsonic loads are ideal. That said, with proper fieldcraft and shot placement, any .22LR load will suffice for hunting very small game.
