The 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge was adopted for military use in 1954. Although replaced by the 5.56 NATO for service rifles, it is still widely employed in sniper rifles and machine guns and enjoys a strong following in the special forces community. Along with its sister cartridge, the .308 Winchester, the 7.62 also sees extensive use among target shooters and hunters due to its excellent long-range ballistics.
These cartridges use non-corrosive Boxer primers and brass cases.
