CCI was founded in 1951 by Richard Speer, whose previous life as a Boeing machinist gave him a bit of a leg up on the ammunition world. He used his knowledge to build a particular type of brass case before realizing the raw material shortage of the post-World War II world made it impossible to produce large quantities at which point he decided to move on to creating a better primer. After some time he came up with a non-corrosive, non-mercuric primer, which gave reloaders a steady stream – a luxury that had been unheard of before. Today CCI remains well-known for their high-quality primers and has more than 60 years of experience under its gun belt.
These .380 ACP rounds are a lightweight 95 grain, making them capable of moving down-range at higher speeds while maintaining the manageable recoil you like about your pistol. They’re Total Metal Jacket, TMJ, rounds, so they won’t expand on impact but simply hit, penetrate, and keep going, making it vital you have a solid backstop in place during range time. In addition TMJ rounds have a fully enclosed bullet, and that means lead isn’t released into the air when you squeeze the trigger, which is good for your lungs and the lungs of everyone else at your range. Each round has a muzzle velocity of 945 feet per second and muzzle energy of 188 foot-pounds. This ammunition is best for target practice and plinking.
There are 50 target rounds in this single box of ammunition from CCI. That’s a nice number of rounds for an afternoon at the range, but your .380 ACP might eat the box faster than you think, so you might want to consider ordering more than one box. These boxes are a great size for stashing in your range bag and stacking in your safe. CCI manufactures this ammunition at their plant in Lewiston, Idaho, in fresh brass cases using boxer primer, so they can be reloaded.
