Similar to the relationship between a .357 Magnum and the .38 Special; the .44 Magnum enjoys the relationship with the .44 Special. That is: you can fire the milder shooting “Specials” in the Magnum cylinders of the Magnum guns, provided you are not specifically prohibited by the manufacture to do so. This allows .44 Magnum shooters to get a milder recoil and a unique characteristic from the .44 Specials if they wish. This is, however a load built specifically for performance in the .44 Special, so it could be shot out of the .44 magnum or out of a gun chambered for .44 Special, but it is made to enhance the specific attributes of the .44 Special.
The .44 Special in this configuration in the Hornady Custom line should recoil similarly to the moderate to hot .40 S&W loads. It offers a 180 grain bullet that is the XTP (Extreme Terminal Performance) Hornady line that reaches 1000 feet per second velocity and 400 pound feet of energy out of the bore.
This is a 20 round box with a 180 grain hollow point in a brass casing with a Boxer primer.
