A: Brown Bear manufactures this 7.62x39 round with a steel cartridge case with a brass coating to increase reliability and decrease friction while being loaded into the chamber. This steel will resist the resizing process that the case needs to experience during the reloading process. A berdan primer style reloading die would be required to reprime these cases. Puncturing a berdan flash hole with a boxer primer die could result in excessive flash from the primer during its next loading and result in higher peak pressures which may be unsafe.
We offer boxer primed brass in 7.62x39 for reloading including Winchester, Prvi Partizan, Fiocchi and American Eagle brands. There are two of us here at BulkAmmo who reload this caliber and have confirmed all of these brands will work well for multiple loadings. The Fiocchi primer pocket seems to hold the primer tighter than some of the other brands, though this has never been an issue with any brands. Additionally, these brands may also be fired at an indoor range as the bullet will not stick to a magnet.
