7.62x51mm has been around since 1954 and was first used for the US military’s M14 rifle. Its parent cartridge is the .308 Win, and the exterior similarities between the two cartridges often causes some confusion. Although SAAMI advises the two rounds can be used in the same guns, manufacturers recommend checking with them to be sure. .308 Win is loaded to a higher internal pressure than 7.62x51mm and wall thickness also often varies; it’s far better to err on the side of caution than to end up with a damaged or destroyed gun.
At 175 grain these are fairly heavy for the cartridge size. They’ll still leave the barrel of your gun with impressive speed, though, and they deliver significant energy on impact. These are Hollow Point Boat Tail (HPBT) rounds. Each round begins to expand immediately upon impact while slowing down at the same time; the combined actions create a catastrophic wound track. The BTs on these rounds makes them a nice choice for longer-range shots because they help each round resist cross-winds and maintain a more balanced trajectory. These rounds fly down-range at the stunning muzzle velocity of 2580 feet per second and impact the target with compelling force. This ammunition is great for hunting game up to the size of whitetail deer.
When you order this single box of ammunition from Federal you get 20 rounds. Federal was founded in 1922 by Charles Horn, who took over the then-failing company and turned it around with impressive speed. He started by distributing ammunition to grocery stores, barber shops and gas stations, a method that was quite effective and would certainly be a convenient way to get ammo today. After almost a century in business Federal has fine-tuned the production process and continues to come up with new, innovative ammunition. Federal manufactures ammunition at their plant in Anoka, Minnesota. Place your order now and feed your rifle ammunition made with pride right here in the USA.
