GECO is a German ammo brand owned by Swiss defense contractor RUAG. The company was founded in 1887 as Gustav Genschow & Co in Stralsund, Germany. By the time of Genschow’s death in 1940, the company had acquired several other manufacturers and become a noted exporter of ammunition all over Europe and to South America, where police almost exclusively used Genschow ammo. GECO eventually became part of Dynamit Nobel and took on its present name in the 1960s, joining RUAG upon the latter’s acquisition of Dynamit in 2002. The company’s current products include airgun pellets and a wide variety of firearm cartridges, blanks, and explosives. GECO ammo has been loaded in a variety of places in Europe including Germany, Switzerland, and Hungary.
