Details

Federal's American Eagle line of handgun ammo is benchmark for the industry for quality range ammo. This quality 9mm ammo is topped with a subsonic bullet weighing 147 grains and is great for shooting suppressed. This ammo is also well regarded by competition shooters who don't want to spend the time reloading. This ammo has a relatively light recoil and if you're an IDPA enthusiast it still makes power factor.

Loaded in Anoka, Minnesota, this ammo is brass-cased, boxer-primed, reloadable, and non-magnetic. Out of Federal's test barrel, this ammo had a muzzle velocity of 1,000 feet per second with 326 ft. lbs. of energy. This is quality, American made ammo available in a bulk 1,000 round factory case.

A: We apologize, but Federal only published the ballistic data for this round when fired through a 4" barrel. It is not possible to accurately estimate a round's muzzle velocity through a differently sized barrel -- you've got to do a chronograph test for that.

A: Those grain numbers refer to bullet weight. There are 7000 grains in a pound, so a 147 grain bullet weighs about 1/3 of an ounce. The advantage of this 147gr FMJ ammunition is that it recoils exactly like 147gr hollowpoints, while 115gr ammo might have a slightly different recoil impulse. Also, this heavier bullet is traveling slower. It is actually traveling under the speed of sound, while almost all 115s are traveling above the speed of sound. For most people, this doesn't matter, but if you ever use a sound suppressor (silencer), the lack of the sonic "crack" will make the ammo much quieter.

A: Yes, 147gr 9mm ammunition is sufficient for self defense. It would be recommended to use a jacketed hollow point for that purpose, wherever legal. Because of the projectile's design, 9mm full metal jacket ammunition of all bullet weights will perform in an almost identical manner against soft targets.

A: From a 4" barrel, this Federal 9mm ammunition should chronograph at approximately 950fps. This may vary depending on your firearm.
