A: .38 Special ammo will shoot just fine in a .357 Magnum. The difference will be that the 38 Special ammo will have less recoil and will also be less powerful than 357 Magnum ammo. Accuracy will vary from weapon to weapon, but no significant drop in accuracy should be expected; if anything, the lower recoil will allow the shooter to flinch less and therefore be more accurate.

A: At the risk of sounding flippant, the best way to find out is to shoot them. However, the more expensive or "premium" ammunition will often be cleaner, on average, than bulk, low-cost ammo.
