CCI crafts this load using a proven "old school" recipe and modern component choices that are safer on both a shooter's revolvers and bank statements. Each of these .38 Special loads comprises an aluminum casing that is not reloadable but is quite light and inexpensive, leading to a lower cost overall; this is a great option for shooters that don't intend to reload or collect brass in any case. Each casing is equipped with a clean-igniting Berdan primer and occupied by high-energy propellant beneath a HBWC (Hollow Base Wadcutter) projectile. The HBWC weighs in at 148 grains which is a popular choice for flat-shooting characteristics.
The bullet's hollow base flares outward when faced with propellant gas pressure, causing the expanded rear of the bullet to transfer seamlessly from cylinder to bore and then to accept rifling with a generous amount of service area. In effect, the round receives ample spin stabilization for incredible accuracy downrange. Since HWBCs are loaded flush with their casings, there is smaller space available for powder so that recoil can be expected to remain manageable. Since the bullet maintains a wadcutter format, its top is mostly flat and leaves cookie-cutter holes in targets for easy scoring and greater chance to cross the perforation with would-be near-misses.
