Details

A truly spectacular 38 Special ammunition for those with lightweight frame or small frame revolvers made specifically for concealed carry. This round used to be a very hard to find combination of weight/bulk and sufficient power, outside of a .38 Special +P round. The makers of premium ammunition are finally getting wise to the fact that the heavier bullet configuration and the standard load is a great combination for the bevy of lightweight revolvers that are perfectly suited to personal defense that are always on the market.

Hornady have outdone themselves here with this round, and while it’s an excellent load, don’t expect a discount: it’s pricey. But well worth the money spent. The relatively mundane speeds are no indication of the stopping power and performance behind the round. They achieve about 15 inches of penetration in ballistic gelatin testing and offer 800 feet per second with 199 ft. lbs. of energy with a nicely designed hollow point projectile in a 158 grain bullet weight. The XTP is a proven bullet and the higher grain weights combined with the nice penetration numbers means this is a far cry from some of the more anemic rounds that were found in the .38 special non +P rounds earlier in their life cycle. Hornady engineering and quality comes through again, for the personal protection crowd.
