Details

A novel approach to home-defense risk mitigation, where the potential for overpenetration or after hit additional penetration is minimized quite well. The Federal Guard Dog 40 S&W ammunition line offers an internal polymer mechanism that is housed in a fully enclosed projectile that allows the expansion to occur at the moment of impact on a legitimate target and removes the potential for after target penetration. It loses a bit of potential stopping power and penetration depth in exchange for a much improved safety profile in close quarters situations.

The lighter weight polymer and alloy projectile produces a lighter recoil profile and allows for decent velocity, while keeping penetration in a range of effectiveness that makes it a legitimate defensive round but doesn’t push too far. The Boxer primed and nickel plated brass casings are reloadable; the powder mix is lighter weight and offers some improvements in low light conditions to help with the focal point of interior shooting during defensive scenarios.

The 135 grain projectile is a decent size for the .40 S&W caliber, and still gives decent velocity and energy delivery. It offers guaranteed expansion and 1200 feet per second velocity and 432 ft. lbs. or energy at the muzzle.
