Details

A classic option for those 5.56x45 shooters out there. Identified by a green tip, the 62 grain projectile is constructed of a lead alloy core topped by a steel penetrator, contained within a gilding (copper alloy) metal jacket. For many, this is THE round to be shooting every time. It’s got a reputation for no-nonsense performance. The annealed necks and the clean burning powder are great perks, but the reloadability of the fine quality brass, and the on target performance are the real story. The brass is very high quality and the projectile flat out does its job.

It happens to be a significant performer for general duty shooting for those Military clones and modular builds we all love. A great consistency across the board, this is among the best feeding, extracting and cycling rounds you can find. It’s not the most accurate, but when paired with the right twist rates (it works well with most common twist rates but prefers 1:8 and 1:9 generally), the accuracy is above average. It is a slightly heavier projectile and does have a very flat shooting trajectory.

A fantastic choice to stock on your shelf, this is a proven round with legitimate credentials.

A: Hello Chris, These 62gr. XM 855 FMJ rounds by Federal in 5.56 have brass cases, but they do have steel in the tips of the projectiles, so they will not pass a magnet test and are not allowed on some ranges.

A: Hi Zachary, The XM855 rounds in 5.56 are not considered armor piercing, but they do have increased penetration over the XM193 rounds as they have steel in the tip. Because of this, many ranges do not allow them to be fired there as there is a potential for damage to the backstop and ricochets.

A: No, this ammo is factory new from the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. It is high quality ammunition.
