Details

A budget steel load produced to replace the now not imported (very hard to find) military surplus ammunition from the Eastern Blok. Brown Bear ammo uses a brown lacquered steel case and a Berdan primer which is well suited for the guns it fires out of. The semi autos and bolt actions that are made for the 7.62x54R cartridge are generally very tolerant of this ammunition – it was built specifically for the platform.

The soft point 203 grain ammunition is a good projectile for mil-surp firearms and the load quality is fantastic; it is substantially similar to the mil-surp ammunition that gained favor in the late 80’s up until it was effectively “banned” on import into the USA. The chance of finding what is essentially 1980’s production ammo case cans for the 7.62x54R is rare, this offers a nearly identical load to that ammunition, and a nearly identical price point to what it cost when it basically disappeared from the market.

The 7.62x54R was suited well to military purposes, and still has a following, and adequate ballistics. It is slightly impractical for today’s modern platforms due to the total cartridge length and the rimmed cartridge design, but it still makes a ton of sense for the firearms in play that fit it. The Semi autos and bolt actions that take the 7.62x54R are all good company for this ammunition, including those ranging from the Mosin Nagant to the AK semi auto variants, which incidentally were used very effectively as sniper rifles in the Russian (and other) armed forces. Clearly the cartridge’s accuracy and reliability are sufficient.

A: Hello Ryan! This Brown Bear ammunition is loaded with a lead core, bi-metal jacketed projectile. The jacket of the projectile contains steel and as a result, will not pass any type of magnet test.
