Details

Brown Bear 7.62x54R ammo is a military style classic that everyone already knows in the form of the old school milsurp ammunition from the Eastern Bloc from the 1980’s. This is the exact same specification except it is now made with non-corrosive primers and powders, so you can worry a bit less about the extra maintenance that was necessary when you shot the older, dirtier ammunition. It’s still a dirty shooting ammunition it just doesn’t cause instant rust like the older corrosive stuff did. The name is given to the brand line by the maker to denote the lacquer coloration on the outside of the shell casing. The one with the brownish color is called the Brown Bear offering.

It is this lacquer that contributes heavily to the reliable feeding and long-term storage capabilities of the round, given that the underlying material on the cartridge casing is steel. The lacquer helps with feeding and extraction and the build allows for higher pressures because of the steel.

The 174 grain projectile is a proven grain weight and offers exceptional accuracy – after all, this ammunition is still being used as a sniper round in many countries; and has a long and decorated history as a sniper cartridge for many years.

A: This 7.62x54r ammo from Brown Bear will include a lead core. However, the jacket featured on this bullet is a bimetal copper jacket that does include a quantity of steel. With this in mind, these rounds will not pass a "magnet test" at your range and may only be allowed to shoot on an outdoor range. The steel on this jacket will not deteriorate the barrel beyond normal use.

A: This is not surplus military 7.62x54R ammunition, which may be corrosive, but is new production ammunition loaded with lacquered steel cases. Brass cased 7.62x54R is available, and when boxer primers are used, the cases can be "reloaded" (reused) several times. Because of this, brass cased 7.62x54R commands a higher price. These steel cased, berdan primed rounds are not suitable for reloading, but are more affordable. Still, this is quality, new production ammunition, which will work well in a Mosin-Nagant or other 7.62x54R rifle.
