option for hunting or target practice. Each cartridge uses a 62 grain bimetal
jacketed hollow point bullet and produces a muzzle velocity of 3,050 feet per
second, barely lower than that of American M193 ball ammo. Each round in this
box of 20 uses non-reloadable Berdan-primed steel cases coated in lacquer for
better feeding.
The Barnaul Machine Plant, makers of Brown Bear ammo, has been around in one form or another since the days of the Russian Empire. It has operated from St. Petersburg and Moscow, but moved to Barnaul, Russia during World War II and has remained there ever since. A major supplier to the Soviet army during the war, it underwent privatization in 2003 and currently operates as a closed joint stock company comparable to an American S-corporation.
