- 20 Rounds of .45 ACP Ammo by Hornady - 185gr Zombie Z-Max
Details
Driven by their hunger for
delicious brains, zombies are fearless, relentless, and above all, numerous.
But you’ve got one advantage they don’t have: the ability to use firearms!
There’s no sense taking on zombies with chainsaws, baseball bats, rubber
chickens, crowbars or any of that other nonsense when you can just shoot them
with your trusty 1911 and these .45 ACP Zombie Max cartridges from Hornady.
Each Zombie Max cartridge uses Hornady’s Z-MAX green-tipped hollow point, which will have about the same effect on the undead that the Hornady XTP bullet is designed to have on the living in a self-defense situation. The 185 grain bullet leaves the muzzle at about 900 feet per second, faster than most .45 Auto cartridges and more than enough to ensure strong penetration and expansion in any zombie.
Hornady was established in 1949 by Joyce Hornady as a maker of premium bullets. Under the leadership of Joyce’s son, Steve Hornady, the company has taken a great interest in developing products to help Americans weather a potential zombie outbreak. Steve Hornady and his crack team of R&D scientists spent hundreds of man hours reviewing research data compiled in various scholarly media such as “Dawn of the Dead” and “World War Z.” Zombie-Max ammunition is the result of their rigorous research. Since the undead are not signatories to the Hague Conventions, Zombie-Max ammo uses hollow point ammunition for maximum takedown power and infection prevention capability. Zombie-Max also comes in a shotgun load, although Steve Hornady has commented that such a load would only be used in dire close-quarters holding actions.

After having these in my gun and tested in my 1911 R1 before I had it fixed, this is the only ammo that never jammed. 150/150 over the time. Gun is now fixed so the other ammo is better to use at range but as far as popping these into ballistic gel goes.....I would say the impact is much better. FMJs would sometimes go through the target and that is no good for defence because of someone/something could be behind the target. These bullets would basically hit the front and as they expand it would pull the "skin" of the gel inward. Would be great for self defence.(Zombie will never stand a chance) If you want a visual aid then next time you are standing in a pool place your hand just a hair above the water, palm down and open, then just push your palm down into the water as fast and hard as you can. Watch the air bubbles in the water behind your hand. That is about it. I recommend this ammo to anyone and will keep using myself. One last note, I had some of these bullets in my truck for almost 4 years because I took them out at the range to use other ammo I had. I fired 16 shots total of those old ones and they worked like I just bought them. (Posted on 2/17/2018)

Handgun used was Springfield XD Mod2 with 3.3" Barrel. Listed velocity is 900 fps. And thats out of a 3" barrel. Will chronograph later. This will be my carry load in this firearm. Carried in crossbreed apendix holster the weight savings over 230g. Loads is substantial. Performance is exceptional in short barrel .45 pistols. I will be testing it against barriers in the near future. (Posted on 9/6/2015)

Ran flawlessly and accurate through an old used 1911 that usually jams in every magazine (don't worry about the gun, it was sent in for tune ups and repairs). When fmj ammo punched a little hole, these guys punched a much bigger hole (in pumpkins).
I'd only use these for personal defense. (Posted on 10/16/2013)

No FTE, FTF. ran through several different types of 45's. 1911, Glock, HK, etc. Great Combat Ammo. Don't waste on targets. Save for the zombies. buy as much as you can and keep next to the Black Talons and Ranger SXT's.

I had to take out 3 zombies this past weekend. Glad I had this z-max ammo. 3 shots and 3 dead zombies. This ammo worked flawlessly. Two shots between the eyes and one was to the side of the head. They went down instantly. So, out of a box of 20 I have 17 left. I will be ordering some more as zombie action is reported to increase in this area of NC. (Posted on 11/21/2011)
