Tasked with designing a 115 grain self defense round for 9mm with plenty of power in short-barreled sidearms, Federal developed the 9BPLE with +P+ pressure. The Hi-Shok bullet provides great expansion, and is popular with many Law Enforcement agencies today. +P+ 9mm is a lot of bang for your buck.

Federal has been cranking out some of the best self-defense handgun ammunition for years. This cartridge in particular was created in the 1980s, and has come down in price over time. Now it is affordable for the shooter that would like to practice often with carry ammo.

Please note that most manufacturers do not recommend using 9mm ammunition loaded to +P+ pressure, as manufacturing specifications do not require them to withstand this pressure. It is highly recommended that you check with the manufacturer of your firearm to find out if you can safely use this higher pressure round.

A: Shot placement is more important than chamber pressure - 9mm can be very effective for self defense at either standard pressure, +P or +P+. 9mm ammo in 115gr, 124gr and 147gr projectile weights can all be acceptable for carry and home defense uses.

A: While there are higher performance 9mm JHPs on the market, this Federal 9mm 115gr +P ammo is priced low enough that you could practice a lot with it, which is important for self defense.

A: Ammunition that is loaded to a standard pressure according to SAAMI (the organization that regulates ammo dimensions & pressures in the US) is simply referred to as "9mm Luger" or "45 ACP." SAAMI has also set max pressures for +P ammo, which is an amount that safely exceeds the standard operating pressure. While SAAMI has not set max pressures for +P+, it is generally recognized as ammo that exceeds both standard (for 9mm, 35,00 psi) and +P ammo (for 9mm, 38,500 psi) pressures, but not to an unsafe amount. You might notice increased recoil or blast and flash from this +P+ ammo.

A: This is very reliable 9mm ammo. While you should always test and practice with whatever ammo you choose to carry with, Federal ammo is always a good choice.

A: Liability issues to be concerned about in a self defense shooting relate to whether the shooting was justified, etc. With the exception of some jurisdictions that ban the use of hollow points, this ammunition, and all of the other ammunition that we sell, is completely legal for use by non-law enforcement personnel.
