This is the modern version of a specialty police/SWAT 9mm Luger round made for non-American police agencies in the 1970’s and 1980’s that needed a specific round built to get around certain restrictions and to allow for a faster moving more penetrating load. It was to be fired mostly from SMG’s (sub machineguns) but it also had a viability as a single cartridge purchase for handguns and carbines. The lighter weight projectile offered very good penetration and the functionality wasn’t harmed by the weight too much, allowing it to be used in most of the firearms used by the requesting agencies, including the HK MP5/HK94 and variants.

Fast forward to today, and it makes a comeback, probably in response to the releases for 9mm of lightweight projectiles that are specifically looking for advanced penetration and lack of over penetration for use in a rural CQB (Close Quarter Battle) environment. As a single cartridge purchase it still has excellent appeal. For those who can stomach the lighter weight projectile in a self-defense firearm it does make sense as it reduces over penetration and still offers mild shooting and follow up shot control, without giving away too much performance. Yes there are more impressive rounds out there, but for the price and the specialty angles, this ammo makes a lot of sense to volume shooters of the 9mm Luger.
