This ammo is about as close as 223 Rem can get to being M193. Like the military’s range/combat 5.56x45, this round is loaded with a 55 grain bullet containing only two nonmagnetic metals: lead, and copper alloy. The full metal jacket boat tail gains 3,240 fps muzzle velocity out of Federal’s 24” test barrel, so expect less if your own barrel is shorter.

Although the FMJBT is practical for combat applications (it rips itself apart into a dozen or more pieces of shrapnel following impact at 3,100 fps or faster), it’s generally not considered as effective for home defense as a law enforcement grade soft point (e.g. a Gold Dot SP). Target shooting is the name of the FMJBT’s game.
