The jacketed hollow point is a very clever bullet design, and one that has been improved upon immensely over the decades. That being said, the JHP has one glaring flaw that just can’t be totally designed out of existence: if debris get crammed inside the JHP’s nose cavity, then it may fail to expand altogether. That means it will not inflict a wider wound channel than its diameter alone can account for. That also means it poses a higher chance of exiting the threat and continuing on to strike an innocent bystander.
One look at this Black Hills 32 ACP round’s 50 grain HoneyBadger will confirm that it hasn’t got that design flaw. It has no nose cavity at all – just frontal profile like a Phillips bit. It does an excellent job of piercing light barriers. It also pressurizes any soft tissue it plows through. The HoneyBadger directs said soft tissue outward, which yields a very large permanent wound cavity as a result. Revolutionary stuff, and loaded in South Dakota by one of the best in the business!
