This shell is loaded with one ounce of shot: 410 pieces of the stuff, because it is #8 lead. The lighter shot column is perched atop a payload of clean-sparking single-base powder, which sends it flying at a muzzle velocity of 1,250 fps (3 dram equivalent). Rio could have loaded the shell to a higher velocity, but keeping it square in the 1,200s helps keep recoil manageable, and doesn’t deprive the shooter of the ability to take fast-moving targets without aiming very far ahead.
