Its gilding metal shell makes the FMJ strong enough to feed reliably, resist becoming deformed under the intense pressure of ignition, and prevent lead residue from rapidly accumulating inside your rifle’s barrel. At 147 grains the bullet is light enough to achieve a muzzle velocity that is much faster than the speed of sound, and its lack of any steel means it’s permissible for use at ranges which ban magnetic ammo. The FMJ’s pointed nose profile helps it conserve more velocity as it screeches downrange, but it won’t let the bullet expand if it sinks into a game animal.
