Details

This 20 Gauge shell from Federal is loaded with ¾ ounces of #7 steel shot. It is known as “dove shot” because its .10” pellets are just the right size to hit a small bird but not quite enough to destroy the trophy -- assuming it’s a little distance away, of course. Because this shot is made of steel, you are safe to use it in sensitive environments where state or federal law bars the use of toxic lead ammunition. Steel shot offers additional advantages besides being earth-friendly. Because it is harder its pellets are less apt to deform when traveling through the barrel, giving it a narrower spread, and it penetrates deeper into targets as well. These are welcome trade-offs for a shot that doesn’t pack quite the momentum that lead does.

Federal’s Speed-Shok line of ammunition shines for its high density wads that seal in propellant gasses to promote even spreading, and also for its reliable primers. The Minnesotan company has innovated a lot in their nearly century in business, and their products are always well-made.
