When you look to Federal to shave some money off of your shooting costs, you’re not going to wind up disappointed. Take this 22 LR cartridge from the Minnesotan company’s Game-Shok line of ammunition as exhibit A: all-around high quality that’ll let you plink and otherwise enjoy your rifle or pistol as you see fit, and in a reusable plastic case no less!

This cartridge’s 40 grain bullet is par for its caliber in terms of weight. What makes it special is the thin layer of copper that Federal has covered it in -- that’s going to prevent lead-on-bore contact, preserving your firearm’s accuracy over the course of your shooting session. A round nose, this bullet penetrates better than it expands, although we’ve yet to encounter the cottontail that can shrug off a direct hit from a 22, expanding bullet or not. Maybe one wearing a cute little kevlar vest could do it.

This round’s propellant produces a high velocity -- 1,240 fps, well above what it takes to break the sound barrier. Along with its neat seating on a quality brass casing, that gives this round’s bullet satisfying accuracy. Again, when you let Federal save you money, there’s no tradeoff to take into account!
