Works in 357 Magnum revolvers, too!
The word “champion” comes from the Latin for battlefield: campus. A fighter who excelled on the campus was known as a campio.
Federal Champion ammunition isn’t intended for the battlefield, however. It is meant for the target range, where it excels for its reliable performance and its sensible price tag.
This cartridge’s 130 grain bullet is a full metal jacket: designed to do no more than (A) feed smoothly, (B) prevent the lead core from contacting the rifling, and (C) embark from the muzzle of a 4” barrel at a velocity of 890 fps.
This cartridge’s FMJ is not designed for terminal expansion. It is a subpar pick for defense for that reason. The bullet also wears a plated jacket, and therefore cannot promise safe passage through ported barrels and/or compensators. The FMJ is devoid of steel, and cannot attract a magnet.
Federal’s target-grade brass isn’t match quality, but it is certainly handy if you intend to handload your own 38 Special ammunition.
