It would be great if we could all go everywhere we liked with beefy old handguns that would indisputably overpower an attacker, but the way things are, discretion is sort of hard to dispense with. That’s the beauty of the 380 ACP -- small cartridge equals small handgun, the kind you can slip between your waistband or tuck into a purse without begging people to wonder whether you’re carrying.

But small cartridge doesn’t necessarily equal small stopping power! Federal proves that with this 380 ACP cartridge, which is optimized to give you the takedown performance you need when you’re put in harm’s way. This round sports a 99 grain projectile, which along with its lower muzzle velocity causes less recoil so you can better keep your sights on target. The HST’s nose cavity delivers great expansion, and its cannelure keeps it together for superior weight retention during penetration.

This round’s brass casing is nickel plated, which along with its bullet’s optimized nose profile promotes more reliable feeding in a semi-automatic. This round is also smartly loaded with low-flash propellant that’ll keep your vision intact if you ever have to let loose in the nighttime.

A: This round has an HST bullet, which is different from a Hydra-Shok Deep bullet. The Hydra-Shok Deep was developed much more recently. One thing it has that the HST hasn't is a center post in its hollow point nose cavity. The post serves to make terminal expansion more uniform. That said, the HST was designed for law enforcement use, and it wasn't even available to the civilian market upon its introduction. One bullet may be objectively better for self-defense, but both of them are amply effective at neutralizing a threat. It's all Federal designed them to do!
