Sometimes it’s just not possible to walk around with a big pistol on your hip, like Bat Masterson with his 12” barrel Colt Buntline. Discretion is key -- which is why you prefer an easily concealed, more compact handgun. Does that mean you should have to stand for less powerful terminal performance from your self-defense load? Of course not -- if you chamber this 9mm round from Federal’s Personal Defense Micro HST line of ammunition, that is.

Like its name implies, this round is outfitted with an HST. It’s a bullet that produces six sharp cutting petals during expansion, creating a wide wound channel without increasing its surface area to a point that would cause it to penetrate to an inadequate depth to strike a vital. The HST wears a cannelure that tethers its core to its jacket to ensure weight retention adequate for deep penetration as well. This round’s HST is relatively heavy for a self-defense bullet of its caliber, which in conjunction with its lower muzzle velocity decreases the recoil perceived by the shooter.

This round’s bullet profile and nickel plated casing both promote effortless feeding in a semi-automatic, and that latter feature further improves the round’s ability to resist corrosion. A specially formulated propellant limits muzzle flash, so your first shot won’t be the only one you can aim accurately in the dark. Your subcompact handgun will thank you for this cartridge!
