Some people say the earth is our “mother.” I don’t see any resemblance. I mean, my mom is a big lady, but she ain’t that big. I also don’t recall the earth ever hitting me with a rolled up copy of TV Guide whenever I misbehaved, which was often.

Maybe they mean the earth is our “mother” in a spiritual sense. If so, they’d probably also approve of Federal Upland Steel ammunition, which doesn’t contain any lead shot, and represents the far eco-friendlier way to take pheasants and other such similarly shootable birds.

This shell is loaded with a normal 1-1/8 ounce pile of shot for its weight. As you might already have intuited, that shot is made of steel: a nontoxic metal that you’re allowed to use for hunting in areas where lead shot can land you in serious trouble. (Well, not that serious, but probably at the very least a fine and confiscation of your shotgun. You’d go on living, but you’d deeply regret your actions. And if your mom ever found out you violated hunting ammunition laws? Well, who knows which rolled up magazine she’d hit you with.)

This shell’s secret weapon is its propellant charge. It zooms the shot out of the barrel at a velocity of 1,400 fps, which is very fast, and sure to really ruffle some feathers at 10, 20, even 30 yards. All you’ve got to do is aim.
