How does the Montana operation keep its products’ costs so low? Primarily, by loading previously fired brass. This 308 Win ammo’s shells can have any variety of headstamps, because they were scooped up off the ground at gun ranges, cleaned, resized, reprimed, and then loaded with brand new bullets in accordance with SAAMI specifications.
This cartridge is loaded with a 147 grain full metal jacket. It does not contain steel. It does not attract a magnet. It’s good to go wherever magnetic bullets aren’t. At that weight, the FMJ is more or less what you’d find in a military-spec 7.62x51 M80 cartridge. Its 2,700 fps muzzle velocity is pretty much on par with M80 specification as well. And lest there be any doubt: SAAMI does not consider it unsafe to fire 308 Win ammunition in a 7.62x51 rifle!
