This is a plastic ammo can, which many folks including ourselves call a “field box.” A field box is nowhere near as strong as steel. Plastic technology has yet to catch up to metallurgy. But a field box is lighter, more affordable, and extremely practical for storing and transporting ammo under all but the most inhospitable conditions.
Uncle Mike’s .50 cal field box is voluminous enough to contain about 1,200 loose 5.56 cartridges, or 250 loose 12 Gauge shells. Like a steel ammo can, its lid also contains a tight-sealing gasket which safeguards ammo against corrosion. And it’s even forest green, a color so beautiful that you’re certain to become overwhelmed by emotion every time you look at it.
