The 17 Winchester Super Magnum – one of the finest varmint and predator cartridges ever conceived. Hornady’s Varmint Express label gives the 17 WSM both the accuracy and the terminal effect it needs to dominate whichever rodents and canines your crosshairs overlap.
This cartridge has one of Hornady’s smallest V-MAX bullets. At only 20 grains it delivers a nearly Mach 3 muzzle velocity out of a 24” barrel. The V-MAX’s keen polymer tip, sleek jacket geometry and gradually tapering base all let the bullet retain over 2,000 fps of velocity beyond 200 yards. So flat a trajectory makes it much easier to pick off even the smallest rodents.
The V-MAX fragments into shrapnel the instant it becomes surrounded by soft tissue. This is because its polymer tip is positioned over a precision-formed cavity within its lead core. On impact the tip builds up great energy before fully colliding with the base of core, forcing it and the surrounding jacket to burst into pieces even at lower velocities.
Hornady’s rimfire primer and clean-burning propellant charge are carefully matched to provide steady ballistic performance, and their brass cases possess interchangeable dimensions for consistent cycling and bullet seating depths.
17 WSM is not compatible with 17 HMR, 17 HM2 or 17 Hornet firearms.
