PLEASE NOTE: This ammunition will fail to cycle a standard AR-15 gas system. You would ideally fire it through an AR-15 with a suppressor-optimized upper receiver; or, barring that, a bolt-action rifle. Also, a 1:7” or 1:8” rate of twist is optimal for the heavyweight 77 grain bullet.
When an object accelerates faster than the speed of sound (1,125 fps), it creates a “sonic boom.” It’s the loud noise that makes air shows extra fun. It is also a noise that a suppressor is not designed to muffle.
Does your own 223 Rem (or 5.56x45) rifle have a suppressor? Do you want it to show you its most effective performance? Then you’ve found just the right ammo for the job: Atomic Ammunition’s subsonic 223 Rem, which leaves the sound barrier well enough alone courtesy of its 1,050 fps muzzle velocity.
This round’s lethargic muzzle velocity does limit its effective range to around 100 yards. You’ll certainly see all kinds of accuracy within that distance, however, because the 77 grain hollow point boat tail possesses (A) momentum that easily overcomes wind deflection, (B) extremely aerodynamically efficient rear and frontal profiles, and (C) the kind of uniform weight distribution that expresses itself as peak rotational stability.
