This 38 Special cartridge by Prvi Partizan may have an unsophisticated bullet, but the lead semi-wadcutter hollow point actually has a lot going for it! Here’s a round that’s fit for both self-defense and target shooting applications.
The LSWCHP may not deliver the same degree of terminal expansion as a top-of-the-line JHP, but it’s still going to increase in diameter as it plows into soft tissue at high enough velocities – definitely unpleasant for the threat. But if the LSWCHP is traveling at a lower velocity (possibly because it has been fired out of a short-barrel revolver), its flat nose profile will still deal more damage to flesh than a round nose FMJ could inflict.
The LSWCHP’s ability to punch holes makes it a natural fit at the range, because it’s going to make each shot placement easier to read on a paper target. You can get a much better idea of your group sizes when you’re using semi-wadcutters!
