This shell’s reduced recoil isn’t a magic trick. Its muzzle velocity is just average at 1,300 fps, and its slug falls on the lighter end of the weight spectrum at 1 ounce. We’re not saying this ammo doesn’t kick at all. It just kicks lighter than a lot of the fiery high-powered hunting shells on the market.

The Hydra-Shok slug is more than just capable of taking down the threat. It is specifically designed for that purpose, and is outfitted with a hollow point nose cavity that initiates terminal expansion the instant it sinks into soft tissue. The slug’s 1,300 fps muzzle velocity (which Federal recorded using a 30” test barrel) also gives the slug enough energy to ethically harvest a whitetail deer at 50 yards, which only speaks further to its potential for personal defense.

A: This Federal shotgun ammo is designed to be used in smooth bore barrels as found in most shotguns. If your shotgun includes a rifled barrel, a sabot slug will deliver the most accuracy from your shotgun.
