This is a specialty load using the versatile, tight patterning, heavy BB shot specifically for varmints and small to medium predators. Generally because it is a lead shot, it’s for nuisance animals and sporting purposes rather than hunting for meat animals or waterfowl. It is a devastating round at moderate ranges (out to about 120 yards or so) with tight patterns and a lot of lead density at the point of impact.
This is a 3” Magnum load with 1 ½ ounce of lead in BB shot size.
The .180 diameter of the pellets offer a high penetration projectile and a bulk of lead that achieves tight patterns at distance (for a shotgun) without losing ballistic coefficient due to dispersion through larger patterns or environmental effects. The long story short: This shell delivers terminal ballistics to animals as large as wolves at distance out to 120 yards and even further depending on environmental factors without loss of efficiency. It essentially adds another layer of versatility to your shotgun, and/or enhances your varmint hunts.
It is a straightforward round that found favor with goose and waterfowl hunters half a century ago for knockdown power out past the initial flight path. The historical efficiency translates well with the combined knock down power of lead (instead of steel or other alloys now used for waterfowl) to extend this classic load out to the varmint arena.
