.22 Hornet is quite an interesting round, with the small projectile, fast velocities and the centerfire primer. Capable of killing small and moderately sized animals including even, smaller deer with the proper conditions, the .22 Hornet is a fun, capable round for any shooter. When you want something that’s a little less powerful than a .223, but still needs to have a decent sized projectile at a good velocity and with enough energy to kill a reasonably sized animal, the .22 Hornet fits the bill.
An excellent caliber for general shooting and for introducing new shooters to rifle shooting at longer distances, the .22H is a reasonably priced round to facilitate your endeavors. The benefit of a super low recoil, intermediate power cartridge that is capable of everything from squirrels to small deer, is obvious, but the X-Factor for the .22 Hornet is the fun it provides. It just has that magical ability to remind the shooter of what shooting for fun really is. It’s never about training or grouping or expensive per shot costs with the .22 Hornet. Even if you are training or shooting tight groups or doing the work type of aspects of shooting it still has a special quality that begs you to keep shooting.
