The AR Tactical line of ammunition by CCI was optimized and produced specifically for AR type platforms and the multiple similar variants. Even though this is 22LR ammo instead of the usual .223 Remington or 5.56x45 NATO, the AR15 has specific operational components that are unique to the AR's direct impingement system. Those components were considered, and the ammo was designed to run efficiently in the AR platforms.
These CCI AR Tactical rounds are topped with a copper jacketed solid lead 40 grain round nose bullet that are designed to run in semi-auto firearms. These match grade 40 grain bullets are loaded into new, polished, reliable, reloadable (with proper equipment), non-corrosive rimfire primed, classic yellow brass cases. The muzzle velocity of these standard velocity 22LRs are reported at 1200-feet per second, and they hit the target with an impressive for their size 128-foot pounds of muzzle energy. This cartridge is a great pick for plinking with handguns or rifle shooting competitions, semi-auto magazine fed rimfire matches, or any type of 3-gun match. These CCI AR Tactical loads come in 375 round bricks, making a perfect size case to stack in the safe. In addition to plinking with handguns, these are a wonderful choice for a family day of rifle plinking fun. Grab yourself a couple of cases today and stockpile as much 22LR as you need to last you awhile.

This time, after removing most of the gunk with another Q-tip, I switched to Winchester Wildcat LRN ammo and fired 200 rounds without any problems.
At home, using a clean dry rag, I wiped off the wax coating from the remaining 300 rounds of the CCI AR Tactical ammo. I returned to the range the following week and fired the 300 rounds with no problems. After this session, the chamber area of the gun was "normal" dirty, with no build up of gunk as experienced the previous week.
The wax coating caused my problem, and I won't be buying anymore of this ammo. (Posted on 8/31/2012)

Given the similar price, I would probably use the CCI MiniMag RN or HP.
The waxy coating was also a surprise, and was even commented on my a neighbor at the range.
The 15-22 cleaned very easily. The Sig was horribly leaded, but I would attribute that to 400 rnds of cheaper ammo that was shot afterwards. (Posted on 8/16/2012)
