Introduction:
Remington Thunderbolt .22 LR receives mixed feedback, valued primarily as budget-friendly ammo for casual target shooting and plinking. Many users note functional reliability in some firearms, but there are recurring concerns with cleanliness and consistency.

Detailed Analysis:
What Shooters Praise (The Pros)
Reliability is highly variable depending on firearm. Some report flawless function in specific models (e.g., Browning Buckmark, Ruger, Henry, Marlin), but others experience frequent jams, misfires, and feeding/ejection failures, especially in semi-automatics and some pistols. Duds and inconsistent ignition are recurring issues.
Performance is serviceable for casual shooting and short-range plinking, with fair accuracy at modest distances. However, notable inconsistencies in power and sound are frequently cited, leading to unpredictable accuracy and user dissatisfaction, especially at extended ranges.
Considered a solid value purchase for high-volume practice or when premium ammo is scarce. Buyers generally feel the low price matches expectations for quality, but many caution you 'get what you pay for' in terms of performance and cleanup required.
What to Know (The Nuances)
• Cleanliness: Universally reported as one of the dirtiest ammos—leaves heavy carbon and lead buildup, requiring extensive cleaning after moderate to heavy use.
• Casing Material: Standard lead round nose, not specifically highlighted for reloadability or premium components.
• Inconsistency: Strongly mixed user experiences—some semi-autos function reliably, others jam or misfire frequently. Ammo varies in power and audible report from round to round.
• Not Recommended for Hunting: Several reviewers caution against use for hunting or defensive purposes due to low reliability and power inconsistency.
• Availability: Sometimes hard to find, but valued when available.
Conclusion
Remington Thunderbolt .22 LR is best suited for shooters seeking budget-friendly plinking ammo with modest accuracy expectations and using firearms proven to cycle it reliably. Its primary strengths are price and basic functionality in compatible guns. However, buyers should weigh the high potential for dirty fouling, inconsistent ignition, and spotty reliability, especially in certain semi-automatics or when clean operation is a priority.

A unique circumstance, no doubt, but I thought that I'd add my 2 cents here on that one. (Posted on 1/25/2023)

There was one exception, my Sig 522. It shot flawlessly without a singe misfire, FTE or FTF. That particular firearm is know for being able to shoot any brand of ammo with a glitch. Clean up was easy and did not take any more time than usual.
The bottom line here is that if you have the same firearm, buy some and have fun. (Posted on 2/19/2014)

30 failures in 100 rounds. Failure to feed, failure to eject, failure to fire. Noticeable sound difference between the rounds. As if little, or no, powder in the cases.
I threw the rest away.
As a same firearm comparison, 1 (one) failure out of 500 rounds of Federal Champion bulk ammo and 2 failures out of 500 rounds of Winchester bulk ammo.
I wouldn't even shoot this stuff out of my Model 510. And it's a Remington! (Posted on 7/9/2013)
