This 22 Short round’s 29 grain bullet is over 25% lighter than the 22 LR’s standard, and its muzzle velocity is WAY lower at 710 fps. That’s a good deal slower than sonic speed, so your ears are really in for a quiet report. And the striking energy at 50 yards? Just 28 ft lbs. A pest’ll feel that for sure, but we can think of many bullets more suitable for hunting Rocky Mountain elk.

Q: Can I use this ammo in a 22 caliber single shot bolt action rifle? Just will be using it for pest control.. Thanks!

A: Thanks for reaching out Alan! This 22 Short ammo should work perfectly in a single-shot bolt-action 22 LR rifle. Lord knows I shot my fair share of red squirrels with that combo back when I was a kid.
