This is a nicely constructed cartridge for the money and the heavy ballistic performance of the .300 Winchester Short Magnum caliber offer hunters a great choice, especially if they have already committed to the platform. The 180 grain weight is a hard hitting projectile, in the soft point configuration and is suitable for a wide swath of big game animals from Deer to Black bear essentially.
This Power Shok projectile achieves 3549 ft. lbs. of energy at the muzzle which offers a lot of flexibility for the hunter to take massive game if needed out to moderate ranges and even to long ranges. The 2980 feet per second velocity is very good for the heavy projectile weight of 180 grains. The only drawback to the cartridge really is that it isn’t as widely distributed or marketed because of the popularity of other rounds and therefore, the benefits of the short action shortened ”Magnums” aren’t as prevalent as they could be.
Boxer primers and Brass cases means this ammunition is easily reloadable though, and that can have very real benefits for those shooters who are dedicated to this platform for their short bolt actuation; the heavy ballistics in a non-belted cartridge and the generally good accuracy that the platform provides.
