Hornady's 5.7x28mm V-MAX ammo debuted in 2005. The polycarbonate tip in V-MAX bullets is designed to act as a wedge upon impact that forces the projectile to expand the way a lumberjack could split a heavy log with a sledgehammer and wedge combo. For a small caliber round, this cartridge is a devastating varmint hunting solution that you will love!

Fabrique Nationale Herstal was founded in Belgium in 1889. With the development SS109 cartridge (known as 5.56x45mm NATO or M855) and the FN Minimi SAW, FN Herstal is recognized as a world-class innovator delivering practical solutions to the evolving needs of combat. They developed the 5.7x28mm cartridge as a potential replacement for the 9mm Parabellum. Its design mimics that of .222/5.56x45mm cartridges, but it is considerably smaller. FN Herstal also designed the Five-seveN semi-automatic pistol that chambers this round and made a good push to replace the 9mm, but to no avail as the German contingent of NATO would not approve the 5.7x28mm over their HK design 4.6x30mm round for the HK MP7.
