Details

Federal American Eagle ammo is one of the most popular ball ammunition lines on the market. This 1000 round case of 180 grain full metal jacket ammo is exactly what you need to practice your marksmanship at the range. If you carry Hydra-Shok or HST ammo for self defense, Federal builds American Eagle ammo at the same facility in Anoka, Minnesota. The 40 was developed in the late Eighties in the wake of the tragic FBI Miami shootout. It displaced the .38 Special as the round of choice, and paved the way for semi-automatic pistols to be the primary sidearm preferred by military, police, and for self-defense.

In Paul M. Barrett's book "Glock: The Rise of America's Gun", he tells the story of how Gaston Glock was the first to market with a semi-automatic pistol for the newly designed .40 Smith & Wesson caliber; the Glock 22. The popularity of the Glock 22 and its adoption by so many Law Enforcement agencies in the US made the .40 S&W one of the most popular handgun calibers in history. Much to the chagrin of Smith & Wesson, they played second fiddle to Glock on the caliber they designed in conjunction with Winchester.

A: Thanks for reaching out Fred! Power factor is calculated as ((bullet weight)*(muzzle velocity))/1,000. This cartridge's power factor is (180*1,000)/1,000 = 180.

A: These two Federal rounds are very similar in terms of quality and accuracy. The main difference would be the packaging material used by Federal. The brass found in American Eagle may have a few small water stains from the cleaning process. This will have no effect on loading or dirtiness of the ammo. All components are premium quality and non corrosive.
