This 12ga Low Recoil ammo by Rio Ammunition has a 2-3/4" polymer shell stuffed with 9 pellets of lethal 00 Buck. 00 Buck can be used for a variety of purposes, including hunting, self-defense, and target shooting. The pellets have a high velocity of 1200 fps and are powerful enough to penetrate the thick hide of medium and large game.

Rio Ammunition is a subsidiary of the Spanish company, MAXAM, and they have manufacturing facilities all over the world, including factories in Spain, Texas, and the United Kingdom. Founded in 1896, Rio expanded to the American ammunition market in 2002.

A: That is somewhat of a marketing term. This load would be a good choice for home defense, because, as you said, it is low recoil 00 buckshot.

A: The low recoil Rio Royal 12ga 00 buckshot has a muzzle velocity of 1200fps. The standard Rio Royal 00 buck has a muzzle velocity of 1345fps.

A: Recoil is chiefly a function of projectile weight, projectile velocity and firearm weight. Rio Royal has reduced velocity for these 12ga 00 Buck rounds from 1345fps to 1200fps, while keeping the weight (number of 00 buck pellets) the same, resulting in lower recoil. Firearm weight is, of course, up to you.
