Details
This 50 BMG cartridge is loaded by Lake City according to M33 specifications. As such it sports a 660 grain projectile, a lighter bullet than the earlier M2’s and accordingly one with a faster muzzle velocity. (That change was made to give gunners an easier time leading with their aim against faster flying aircraft, although we don’t imagine you’re buying this ammo with that express goal in mind.) This round’s full metal jacket projectile is strengthened by its soft steel core, and will accordingly attract a magnet. This round is perfect for serious training and fun time shooting, although its approximately 1.5 ounce projectile which travels faster than the speed of sound ought to prove more than adequate for self-defense in the event that your neighborhood is ever overrun by, say, rhinoceros.
As one of the primary suppliers to the U.S. military, you may rightly assume that the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant’s loading procedures are totally up to snuff. These rounds’ brass casings are properly annealed -- visibly so, satisfyingly -- and their non-corrosive primers are up to the task of weathering long term storage.
