Small game hunters have historically preferred lighter bullets for their pursuits. There are pros and cons to going with 45 grains over 55, but this round’s high-velocity jacketed hollow point will unarguably establish a flat trajectory. That simplifies aiming. It carries plenty of energy to wherever it’s going, too. (By Remington’s measure, 200-yard striking power equals 590 ft lbs).

This round’s JHP is a simple bullet (UMC products aren’t loaded with very sophisticated ones, as a rule). It’s made well enough to deliver reasonable precision at long range, and built to expand and fragment after high-velocity collision. Better terminal ballistics for hunting than an FMJ, no doubt, but not enough mass to be considered ideal for whitetail.
