Details

“Full metal jacket” is kind of a misnomer. In reality, the FMJ’s jacket isn’t full at all, because it leaves the entire base of the bullet’s core uncovered. That winds up mattering a whole lot, because propellant burns hot enough to evaporate lead – producing toxic vapor in the process. Not very much, to be sure, but every shot can eventually add up to really foul up an indoor range’s oxygen.

If you spend a lot of time working on your marksmanship where the sun doesn’t shine, you’ll benefit from this 40 S&W cartridge by Speer’s Lawman label. Its 165 grain bullet is a much more appropriately named total metal jacket, with a jacket that covers 100 percent of its core’s surface area. Propellant gasses won’t evaporate any lead while they cook a TMJ’s base!

Speer additionally gave this round their Clean-Fire primer, which is formulated without lead, antimony, or any other heavy metals that could adversely affect your respiratory health. The first rate American manufacturer’s new production brass and clean burning propellant finish off this round as a complete solution for training, target practice, and plinking. With its 1,050 fps muzzle velocity and 404 ft lbs muzzle energy, this range round performs comparably to a self-defense load.
