Right off the bat, this is not a hunting round. The ELD-X provides terminal expansion; the ELD Match, on the other hand, does not. Every molecule in the projectile exists only to enhance precision. The ELD Match’s most impressive feature is its Heat Shield tip, which is made of polymer that doesn’t melt or otherwise deform while it is baked by air friction. The perfect meplat gives way to a secant ogive profile Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket, which is extremely concentric and rotationally stable, and which also ends in a drag-reducing boat tail.
Hornady’s highest-quality brass case makes the ideal throne for an ELD Match. Their carefully matched propellant gives the heavy 73 grain bullet a muzzle velocity of 2,790 fps out of a 24” barrel. Its 0.398 G1/0.200 G7 ballistic coefficient means that the bullet ought to retain supersonic velocity until approximately 900 yards, and do an exemplary job of resisting wind drift the whole way out there.
