Is Federal Fusion Tipped 308 Win ammunition good for deer hunting? We posed that question to local hippie and known protestor Shakra-Shakra Moonbeam, who informed us that no ammunition is “good.” We then consulted local hunter and pickup truck driver Waylon Cash Pringle. He said “Yup!”
It’s easy to see where old Waylon is coming from. This cartridge’s Fusion Tipped bullet is a lot of things, the three foremost of which are:
• Tough - That bullet’s not just massive at 180 grains. It’s also wrapped in an electrochemically bonded jacket, so it’s equipped to keep most of its momentum intact as it strikes and tunnels through wiry wild game.
• Expanding - Deep penetration is only the first of wild game’s problems. The Fusion Tipped is also designed for wide expansion!
• Sleek - The original Fusion bullet is a soft point. This round’s bullet wears a sharp polymer tip, so it holds on to a significantly higher percentage of its velocity as it slides downrange (0.510 B1 BC). That’s why it flies flatter and hits with greater force!
We later asked noted brass expert Dmitri Popov if Federal’s brass is high-quality and reloadable. He said “Da.”
